Someone once asked me if I'm conservative or liberal. I said, "Yes." I'm conservative about some things and liberal about others. I'm middle of the road on other things. I don't think its being wishy-washy (wherever did that phrase come from?), but I can see both sides on many arguments. Maybe I just don't give a crap about enough things in life...
The death penalty, for example. I can't say I have strong feelings about it, pro or con. I also don't have a relative that was murdered by some thug, nor do I have a relative on Death Row (at least not one I know of...). I guess I go by the "eye for an eye" argument, and the ridiculous cost of keeping someone in jail for life at the taxpayers' expense.
But then I think of the other side. We are one of the few major industrialized nations that execute people for their crimes. We are right up there with China, Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. See this link: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777460.html Can we really justify our government putting people to death for their crimes? I go back and forth on this topic.
This wasn't meant to be a red flag in front of a bull, but I do welcome comments. I'm just presenting some random thoughts.
